our story

If there is one thing that has always defined us, it is probably a shared curiosity for the world and a tendency to never stay still for too long. Long before photography became part of our lives, we were both drawn to new places, different cultures, and experiences that make life feel rich and memorable. In many ways, that same curiosity still shapes everything we do today.

Julia grew up in Southern Germany and discovered her love for travel early on. After high school came a trip around the world, a camera constantly in hand, and the realization that seeing new places was never the most exciting part, it was always the people and stories behind them. That naturally led into studying linguistics and developing a deep appreciation for communication, culture, and feeling comfortable connecting with all kinds of people.

That same adventurous spirit eventually brought Julia to Southern California for a semester abroad where, within the very first weeks, life unexpectedly introduced Ken. Coming from entirely different backgrounds, there was an instant connection and a quiet fascination with how naturally two people can understand each other, even when speaking the same language was still a work in progress.

While Julia has always leaned creative, Ken is very much the engineer of the two. A lifelong car enthusiast with the wonderfully nerdy brain that somehow understands how everything works, he is also the reason photography eventually became more than simply carrying around a camera. In fact, he was the one who taught Julia everything technical in the very beginning, which makes this whole journey feel especially full circle.

Over the years, life together has taken us across California, Germany, Hong Kong where we got engaged, Australia, Hawaii, Singapore, and countless places throughout Europe. These days, home feels beautifully split between Santa Barbara and Southern Germany, where we spend our summers from June through August close to family, usually finding ourselves somewhere between the Bay Area, Lake Como, or hopping on a train to Paris whenever possible.

Outside of photography, life feels wonderfully full these days chasing around our two young boys, discovering great restaurants and wineries, planning our next trip, finding excuses to stay at beautiful hotels, and saying yes to experiences that make life feel worth celebrating.

Photography has become such a natural extension of how we see the world, an appreciation for beautiful experiences, meaningful connection, and preserving moments that often pass far too quickly.

Maybe that is why weddings feel so personal to us. Because beyond the celebration itself, they are really about what matters most in life — finding your person, sharing beautiful experiences together, and building a life that feels entirely your own.
